Student Hack: The “Pomodoro + Afrobeats” Method That Saved My GPA
Ever felt like your attention span vanishes after 10 minutes?
What if I told you there’s a method that saved my GPA — and all I needed was a timer and some Afrobeats?
Staying focused while studying is hard — especially with distractions all around. But here’s a simple trick one student from University of Portharcourt swears by…
What is the Pomodoro Technique?
The Pomodoro Technique is a simple but powerful study method where you work in focused 25-minute bursts (called “Pomodoros”) followed by 5-minute breaks.
The “Pomodoro + Afrobeats” Method
Step 1: Pick a topic to study.
Step 2: Set a timer for 25 minutes — this is your “Pomodoro session.”
Step 3: Play low-volume Afrobeat instrumentals (Lofi Wizkid, Burna, or Ayra Star)
Step 4: After 25 mins, take a 5-minute break. Repeat this cycle 4 times.
How It Works:
- Choose a study task
- Set a 25-min timer
- Work till it rings
- Take a 5-min break
- Repeat 4 times, then take a longer break (15–30 mins)
Why It Works for Students:
- Forces you to stay focused
- Makes long reading sessions manageable
- Helps you avoid burnout
- When paired with calm Afrobeat instrumentals, it slaps
